This 6 night class concentrates on basic computer knowledge including Window O/S, MS Word, Excel and Bluebeam. This course will also cover basic file structure and file management. CAD Detailing compiles the knowledge gained in the previous pre-requisites to begin detailing a “Real World” project. These classes are required to complete the CAD Detailing Program. You will only be allowed 3 absences to qualify as a completed class.

This is a class that teaches the preeminent Detailing software used in the Sheet Metal Industry. This class is required to complete the CAD Detailing Program. You will only be allowed 3 absences to qualify as a completed class to use as a pre-requisite.

The class expands on the AutoCAD knowledge base including scaling, paper space, X-Refs and other advanced functions, required prior to Detailing in CAD. The purpose of this class is to familiarize a prospective TAB Technician with common operating procedures. These procedures include coding drawings and TAB document setup, familiarization of TAB related tools, collecting data from equipment, duct leakage testing and basic TAB math formulas, ETC. This class is open to Members interested in TAB and members with a TAB certification that have not worked for a TAB contractor yet. This class will also teach the basic principles of test and balance.

Before any tangible object can be fabricated, it first must be imagined in someone’s mind. The process of layout and pattern development serves as the bridge between the mental visualization of an object and its actual fabrication.

This is an online course through www.klg-iti.org that requires 30 hours of online training to be completed within 6 months from the date when you start the course. You must pass each module with a minimum passing score of 70%. You have three chances to pass the OSHA 30 online test. You will receive a temporary certificate upon completion and an OSHA 30 card will be mailed to you. A payment of $117 is required for this course. Proof of payment and a copy of certificate are required in order to get reimbursed by the JATC. Copies of receipts and certificates can be emailed to Max Lai at MaxL@socalsma.org. Option to take the OSHA 30 bundle is also available but must submit at least one additional safety certificate to get reimbursed. Price $151.

The REVIT class will introduce detailers to MEP Fabrication parts, and best practices for project setup, linking drawings, views, annotation, documentation, families, import and export Fabrication (.maj) files. Also intro to Hangerworks a Revit plugin for point loads and seismic.

This 6 night class covers the 2016 and the 2019 forms of California’s Building Energy Efficiency Standards and steps required by the standards needed to complete the Level 1 forms. The first 100 members who pass the certification exam will receive $350.

This class is equally divided into classroom lesson and practical field layout in our own field lab. This class teaches how to operate Trimble Robotic Total Station through both WLAN & Radio Frequency using both the new Kenai and Yuma 2 Tablet. Lesson will include how to layout duct hangers, deck openings, wall openings, underground layout and even capturing existing field conditions. Class maximum 8 persons.

Certified welders are always in demand. Many welding jobs require certification. Without certified welders our union will forfeit jobs to other trades or non-union workers.
• The welding classes are open entry. Students will work at their own pace. The classes train you to pass the written and practical test for the Los Angeles City license or AWS Certification. View the documents below for more information.

• All Los Angeles City certification fees will be paid by the J.A.T.C. upon presentation of the certificate. It is the JATC’s goal to certify every welder and to maintain the edge in training.

• L.A. City Prep. Monday and Wednesday nights.
Comprehensive class that will cover “Part 1 - Department Examination” aka the “written” portion of the L.A. City exam. Mainly covering the usage of the AWS D1.1 Structural code book.
• AutoCAD Open Lab Monday and/or Wednesday nights.
The large computer lab will be opened for students to use/practice, with an instructor, on the full suite of Autodesk programs.
