In this three-night class, you’ll learn to measure, layout, cut, and assemble mitered joints for coping, fascia, gutters, flashings, reglets, and other architectural components. Emphasis will be placed on achieving clean, accurate angles, proper seam alignment, and watertight finishes. Hands-on practice and demonstrations will ensure students develop the craftsmanship necessary for high-quality installations.

In this two-night course you’ll learn the fundamentals of soldering, including proper material preparation, joint design, and temperature control. Emphasis will be placed on achieving clean, strong, and watertight seams for both functional and aesthetic purposes. In this six-night class, you’ll focus on the design, fabrication, and installation of architectural wall panel systems used in modern building envelopes. Students will learn about various panel types, including composite panels, rain screens, and custom metal panels, and their role in aesthetics, weatherproofing, and thermal performance. The course emphasizes material selection, layout, fastening methods, and integration with building systems. Hands-on workshops will provide practical experience in fabricating and installing wall panel systems with precision and durability.

This 6 night class concentrates on basic computer knowledge including Window O/S, MS Word, Excel and Bluebeam. This course will also cover basic file structure and file management. This class is required to complete the CAD and Revit Detailing Program. You will only be allowed 1 absence to qualify as a completed class to use as a pre-requisite.

The REVIT class will introduce detailers to MEP Fabrication parts, and best practices for project setup, linking drawings, views, annotation, documentation, families, import and export Fabrication (.maj) files. Also intro to Hangerworks a Revit plugin for point loads and seismic.

Intro to variable refrigerant flow (VRF) systems. This class includes the layout, installation and maintenance/service for VRF systems. The class will walk through the start-to-finish process of installing and servicing the VRF system. You must be competent in soldering, brazing and basic refrigeration knowledge. This class is not intended for the beginning service technician.

Basic Level - will focus on electrical principals. High and low voltage systems and related components will be covered, as well as reading wiring schematics.
Intermediate Level - Will focus on refrigeration principals. The refrigeration cycle, basic thermodynamics and refrigeration components will be covered. This class will also cover gas fired heating and brazing copper refrigerant lines.

This is an online course through www.klg-iti.org that requires 30 hours of online training to be completed within 6 months from the date when you start the course. You must pass each module with a minimum passing score of 70%. You have three chances to pass the OSHA 30 online test. You will receive a temporary certificate upon completion and an OSHA 30 card will be mailed to you. A payment of $117 is required for this course. Proof of payment and a copy of certificate are required in order to get reimbursed by the JATC. Copies of receipts and certificates can be emailed to Max Lai at MaxL@socalsma.org. Option to take the OSHA 30 bundle is also available but must submit at least one additional safety certificate to get reimbursed. Price $ 151.

The purpose of this class is to familiarize a prospective TAB Technician with common operating procedures. These procedures include coding drawings and TAB document setup, familiarization of TAB related tools, collecting data from equipment, duct leakage testing and basic TAB math formulas, ETC. This class is open to Members interested in TAB and members with a TAB certification that have not worked for a TAB contractor yet. This class will also teach the basic principles of test and balance.

This class is divided into classroom lessons and hands on field layout in our on-site lab. This class teaches how to operate Trimble robotic total stations (RTS), and data collectors like the new T-100 and Kenai. Lessons will include uploading Trimble files, setting up RTS machine and connecting data collectors to perform layout. Layout will include duck hangers, deck openings wall openings, and capturing existing field conditions.
